Detoxing
Juicing

Supplements

Many swear by dietary supplements as effective remedies for hemorrhoids. Supplements are believed to strengthen hemorrhoidal tissues, lessening pressure on rectal veins. Supplements believed to aid hemorrhoid sufferers include herbs, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids (EFAs), L-glutamine, and acidophilous.

Herbs

Horse chestnut, bromelain from pineapple, grapeseed extract, butcher's broom, and flavonoids, which are potent antioxidants, have all been recommended to ease hemorrhoid pain. Butcher's broom is an anti-inflammatory that strengthens veins and shrinks the swollen tissue in hemorrhoids. The active compound is called ruscogen.

You can take butcher's broom, which can be found in health food stores, in capsule or tea form. Horse chestnut has similar properties and can also be taken in capsule or tea form.
Aloe vera gel capsules are a natural stimulant that can relieve constipation and the resulting hemorrhoids. Drinking pure aloe juice is also said to be effective in easing the pain and itchiness caused by hemorrhoids (p. 61).

In Foods That Heal, Dr. Bernard Jensen recommends the following herbs to aid proper digestion:

St. John's Wort can also help relieve the itching and burning of hemorrhoids, according to Rosemary Gladstar, author of Herbal Healing for Women.

Vitamins

Vitamin A. Vitamin A, also known as beta-carotene, is a good healing nutrient. Experts recommend taking 10,000 IU of this antioxidant daily.

Vitamin B. Take a good Vitamin B complex. Vitamin B1 (thiamin), found in whole grains, beans, fish, and poultry, is particularly important. This vitamin is essential to regulating your metabolism and protecting nerve function. Vitamin B1 provides energy to the brain and the nervous system and helps keep the heart strong.

A deficiency of this vitamin can lead to constipation, indigestion, and heart trouble. In Get Healthy Now! author Gary Null, an alternative health practitioner, recommends 1 mg daily for women and 1.4 mg daily for men.

Vitamin C.  Naturopathic doctors recommend taking 1000 mg twice daily to heal hemorrhoidal membranes.

Vitamin E.  An antioxidant, 400 IU daily of this excellent healing nutrient is recommended by experts.

Minerals

Calcium and magnesium. Experts recommend taking them in combination or in a good multivitamin. The concentration of calcium to magnesium should be about 2:1.

Zinc. Noted for its strength as a healing nutrient, experts recommend 30-50 mg daily.

Essential Fatty Acids

EFAs lubricate and reduce inflammation in the digestive tract. A blend of Omega 3 and Omega 6 is best. Herbalists recommend that you take 1000 mg twice daily.

L-glutamine

A key amino acid for managing intestinal stress, 500 mg daily is recommended.

Acidophilus

This is a friendly bacteria that keeps the intestines clean. Make sure that the supplements you take contain living bacteria. You can find acidophilus in most health food stores.  Alternative health specialists recommend that you find a brand with at least 3 million living organisms. If you can't find it, try yogurt (unsweetened) instead.
